Chapter 1
The sun was high in the sky, it was getting close to midday. A fresh spring breeze blew over the countryside, a lonely road carved its way through the green hills as far as you could see. In the far distance the mountains could be seen. The capital city was located near those mountains. This road however was hardly traveled, it also didn't get the protection the roads near the Capital got. Today the road wasn't completely deserted, a girl and a cat are traveling. The girl had long black hair, was short for her age and looked younger as well. The brown green traveling clothes she was wearing looked a couple of sizes to big for her. Like most travelers the girl also carried a backpack. Next to the girl there walked a pink cat. "Isn't it getting warm in those clothes?" The cat suddenly asked the girl. "Nah, not yet," she replied, "it is still cold at night. I mean you might not notice it because of your fur but spring just started." "If it wasn't for that, we wouldn't even be here." "I told you not to talk about it," the girl snapped irate. "I know, i know. It is just i could be doing nothing next to the fireplace." "I would have rather stayed but that wasn't an option so now we are heading to the capital." "If you were just more careful or focused," the cat stopped mid sentence, the girl stopped before turning towards her companion. "How many time do I have to say I am sorry for what happened." "Maybe until I stop being pink?" "It was an accident, i tried everything i knew to give your fur another color but nothing worked." "Don't remind me. Whoever heard of a pink familiar a pink MALE familiar even." The girl hung her head, he was right. She tried to do the summoning perfectly, she tripped over something during the spell making the familiar's fur pink. "Shall we have lunch," the girl tried to chance the subject before it depressed them both. She rummaged through the backpack taking out something to eat, it was split into two. "It isn't that tasty but until we get to the next village it is all we have," she said to the cat half trying to convince herself to eat it. Trail rations were made to last not to taste great. She had packed some other food but they ate the last of it a couple of days ago. It would still take a few days to get to another village so they had to do with what they got. "Why don't we hunt?" The cat asked the familiar question again. "Because i can not skin animals nor cook them. If you want to eat raw things Ben be my guest." "I am starting to wonder if raw mice might taste better then this stuff. I always wondered you are a girl but can not cook, what is up with that." Ben could see the flames in the girls her eyes and gulped. "I could practice on you," she replied in an icy voice, she stood up. "I do not think it is going to rain anytime soon," Ben said while slowly walking backwards. "Trying to change the subject?" "Yeah well I do not fancy being roasted alive." The girl smiled before sitting down again to finish her lunch. A slight chill crept down Ben's spine that was one subject he wouldn't touch again. "It isn't that i never wanted to learn it but," she started talking but suddenly stopped, the girl looked sad for a moment, "anyway we should move on." The girl continued the journey after dusting off her clothes. "Miranda?" Ben called to her. "Yes," she answered while flashing a smile at him. "Never mind." He decided to drop it for now.

In the distance the river slowly appeared. After crossing that the next village would be only one more day away. Both couldn't wait to sleep in a normal room again. Though Miranda didn't have much money on her it should be enough to at least sleep in a few inns before they reached the capital city. Miranda hoped the letter her teacher send with her would explain everything, she also hoped they would send her back to her hometown. They couldn't help her anymore, the people in the capital were her only hope. That thought made her feel depressed, she sight. "What is wrong?" Ben asked the girl after he heard that. "Nothing," Miranda said she didn't wanna say it out loud. "Do not worry about things to come. Worrying about it will only make it worse in your head." Ben tried to cheer her up. "But," she tried to say but Ben cut her of. "Your teachers wouldn't have send you to the capital if they didn't think they would take you in." "I guess you are right." "I know I am right," the cat gloated, though he wasn't really sure it wouldn't make her feel better worrying about it. What would happen would happen anyway. Miranda couldn't help thinking about it, it was a part of her she didn't like. Despite the encouraging words from Ben it was still going through her mind, until she felt something sharp sticking into her chest. Some guy in front of her was pointing a dagger at her. "I keep telling you to watch where you are going," the cat beside her complained. "Well you could have warned me," Miranda shot back. "I did but you were so spaced out you didn't notice it at all." Ben sounded annoyed, "this always happens. When are you learning to stay focused." The person in front of them started to get irritated at the two fighting. "The fare to cross the bridge is all your money," the bandit smiled vilely. "Where did he came from?" Miranda looked at Ben. "He was here the whole time, looks like they rob the people trying to cross the bridge." "Your money or your life," the bandit yelled. He was build like a house still it didn't scare Miranda, although she did take a step backwards. "I think someone should take care of this idiot," she said smiling. "Be my guest." The bandit eyes went wide with fury hearing that from a girl that was at least half his size. The second she started moving her hands the bandit dropped to the ground, he seemed to be dead. "What happened," Ben stared wide eyed to the corpse in front of him before looking at Miranda. "It wasn't me, I just started." Then she noticed an arrow in the back of his neck, he was killed with one shot. "Fear not young maiden I have rescued you from the bandit." The voice came from someone on the other side. It came from a guy dressed in full plate armor, it shined brightly in the sun. On the chest was an emblem of a god, probably the one he worshiped. His hair was short and blond, with his green eyes he looked straight at Miranda. Even from this distance she could see the guy was tall. On his back he carried what looked like a large warhammer, in his hands was a bow he used to kill the bandit in front of her. He was most likely be a traveling cleric. "I think that guy thinks he saved you." Ben remarked a bit sarcastically, Miranda smiled a bit. "Thank you good sir, I wouldn't have known what to do without you." She yelled back to the cleric. "What are you doing," Ben whispered. "Just being polite, also if he goes the same way we might be able to travel together." "It does look he would be useful in a fight." Both of them walked over to the bridge, the cleric had already put away his bow. "So where is a girl like you traveling to alone." "I need to go to the capital for a study." "That is a coincidence, I am heading there myself for training." "What is that training for?" "I want to be a paladin," the guy said proudly, "by the way my name is David." "Nice to meet you my name is Miranda and this walking piece of fur is Ben." "It is male," David said shocked, "but he is ..." "Pink, I know", Ben cut into the conversation. Miranda leaned close to David to whisper. "Try not to mention it, he is kind of sensitive about it." "Well it is your fault," Ben remarked annoyed. Miranda just looked away flushed. "Anyway," Miranda said trying to change the subject, "we should go, I mean the next town isn't getting closer to us on its own." The group agreed before walking towards the next town.

I think the next update will also be the end of chapter 1. Like i said before i am going to keep the chapter short (probably also the story). As the complete title suggest i will have several storylines ready. Might be a trilogy dunno for sure. I do know at least for now the story will focus the mostly on Miranda and her familiar. I MIGHT do a background story on a character that has not been introduced yet

The streets of the town were full of people. The market was full of people doing business. All around there were things being bought and sold. Everything you could think of was for sale. The group was looking at all the stalls most were not interesting for them except for food. "I still think we should keep traveling," David said after a while. "I want to sleep in a normal bed once in a while," Miranda replied. It was the reason they got a room in an inn already. They had to sleep in the open a lot already, to much for Miranda's taste so if possible she wanted to sleep in an inn if possible. She had enough money for it anyway. Also when she reached the capital Miranda wouldn't be able to leave that town for a while so she wanted to enjoy the freedom as long as possible. Suddenly someone bumped into Miranda rather hard. "Can't you watch were you are going,"she yelled at the person. A brown hooded cloak was covering the whole body. The face was hidden in the shadow. The person just walked on ignoring Miranda. "Are you ok," Ben asked. "Yeah stupid idiot didn't even say sorry." Both didn't notice the figure was looking at them until they disappeared in the crowd. Something that looked like a smile formed on the lips before turning around and move on.

Sorry for pointing another small mistake out, but you wrote the indstead of they at line 5. A bit short this time but I like it once again! :3 You got lot more author potential than I XD thanks changed it, added a description of David in the previous bit (when they first met). For being short my room doesn't have any working lamps so my keyboard got more difficult to read. The rest of chapter 1 will be added tomorrow (that will give more hints to the character storyline. It is a little different then intended, had to change it or else i would get plotholes /edit : hate my Y key

It was already night when Miranda was still roaming the streets. The market people were already packing up their stuff to call it a day. David already went back to the inn to get some rest. It was decided that they would leave early, the group would have covered a lot off ground before they had to set up camp for the next night. Miranda and Ben stayed to admire all the entertainment. She tried to hide Miranda was yawning. "Maybe it is time to get some rest," her pink familiar said in reply. "But i am not tired yet." "Who are you trying to convince?" Miranda didn't say anything so Ben continued to talk. "It won't be so bad. You know it is for the best. If anyone dies you will never forgive yourself." Miranda glared at Ben, she knew he was right but Ben didn't have to mention it every single time. Miranda knew she was a danger. "You are right, let us go get some rest." Both turned into the direction of the inn. It didn't take long to get to the room. David was already asleep, Miranda checked that before she entered her room. Miranda started to undress herself to take a bath. "What is that!" Ben exclaimed suddenly. "What are you talking about?" "On your side." Miranda examined her side, it looked like something had stabbed her. It wasn't there before, she couldn't even think how she got it. Strangely it wasn't even sore something that recent wounds usually are. "That guy," she said surprised. Ben looked at her puzzled. "That idiot that walked into me, but how did i end up with this." Since both didn't have any idea the subject was dropped. A hot bath was easy when you could use magic to warm up the water. Miranda's magic meant never having a cold bath. After drying herself completely she went to bed.
It was completely dark, it took a while for Miranda's eyes to adjust to her surroundings. She was standing in a small passageway, two high rocky walls made it feel very claustrophobic. There was a burnt torch in her right hand, Miranda dropped it. Finally she noticed she was all alone, after summoning Ben she was never alone. Miranda yelled Ben's name a few times, the only reply she got was her echo. She cast a small light spell but for some reason it didn't work. Miranda frantically tried casting several spells she knew but nothing worked. Fear crept into Miranda, she was alone in an unknown situation. Also it felt like many eyes were staring at her. It felt like hours before Miranda reached the end of what felt like a cave. A red moon gave of a little light that illuminated the surrounding. It gave the rocks an eerie blood colored hue. She could still see walls in the distance trying to touch the sky. The stone bridge she walked on now was very small, it was easy to fall down into the abyss below. Something was calling the young girl even though she had no idea what. In the distance in the shadows their looked like there were hovering two red glowing orbs. Slowly but surely the orbs closed in on Miranda. Now fear really engulfed her, Miranda took a few steps back. Those orbs radiated evil, the aura was overwhelming. The next step back Miranda took was beside the bridge, she lost her balance and fell. She screamed long before she felt a sharp pain in her feet.
When Miranda opened her eyes she noticed she was laying in bed. Ben was at her feet biting her. There was something very wrong. Miranda sweat like a pig, the room was ablaze. "Finally you woke up." She scrambled out of bed, grabbed all her stuff before running out of the room. Miranda ran in David's room, woke him up before they all ran outside the inn. Outside more people stood looking at the fire others were trying to fight the fire. Miranda dropped her stuff before using her magic to extinguish the flames. Still the inn was burned to the ground. "Well there goes our rest," David said scratching his head, "wonder how it happened." Both Ben and Miranda looked at each other but decided not to say anything. After a while Miranda broke the silence. "Maybe it is better if we left now. Do not think any other inn will be free anymore." "Sure, we are awake anyway already," David said. Miranda changed into her traveling clothes before they continued their journey towards the capital.
