I'm re-watching DW too! I (accidently) signed up for Netflix (long story) so I've been rewatching, starting with series 4. Just finished it last night, apart from the Christmas special. Sadly Netflix only has series 1 - 4 =(
Also, as for places to visit, I'm just copy/pasting this message from when my friend from the States asked the same thing
Okay, I have a rather long list... I found a handy book at home called 'Best Days Out in Britain'
- Stonehenge, Wiltshire: typical tourist spot, I don't think you can get that close to the stones now though? =/
- Oxford, Oxfordshire: so beautiful, they do some Harry Potter tours too, of places they used in the films. I just love this town, loads of museums too, all free
- Bath, Somerset: famous Roman Baths, very pretty spa town
- Cheltenham, Gloucestershire: I go here a lot at home, for shopping, about 30 mins from where I live. It's a regency spa town, very pretty Georgian houses, but I would say don't make a detour especially for it, since the only thing I can think of to do there is shop!
- Eden Project, Cornwall: edenproject.com - probably quite expensive, been there once
- Land's End, Cornwall: the most south western point of England, not sure what's actually there though! And the most northern is John O Groats in Scotland
- Bristol: where I was born Big city, they filmed Skins there, very good museum, it's a port town along the Bristol Channel, lots of history
- Westbury White Horse & Avebury, Wiltshire: Avebury is another stone circle
- Dartmoor, Devon
- Longleat, Wiltshire: for the safari park and manor house! Haha, they're fun But again, I don't think they're worth making a detour for unless you're nearby xD
- Tintagel Castle, Cornwall: supposedly King Arthur's castle
- Glastonbury, Somerset: home of spiritualism, lots of links with Christianity, only problem is it's full of ageing hippies nowadays The town itself is small, mostly crystal shops (and a weed shop, haha) but there's several touristy things
- Winchester, Hampshire: ancient capital of England during the reign of Alfred the Great
- Hampton Court, Surrey: one of Henry VIII's palaces
- Canterbury, Kent: pilgrimage site, pretty
- Windsor Castle, Berkshire
- Warwick Castle, Warwickshire: quite expensive to visit though
- Stratford-upon-Avon, Warwickshire: birthplace of Shakespeare
- Cambridge, Cambridgeshire
- Caernarfon Castle, Gwynedd, Wales
- York, Yorkshire: such a pretty city, Whitby is also nearby which is supposedly where Dracula landed in England, and they do ghost tours. Visited when I was 11
- Big cities in the north: Liverpool, Leeds, Sheffield, Manchester, Durham, Newcastle: haven't visited any of these!
- Hadrian's Wall, Northumberland
- Big cities in Scotland: Edinburgh, Glasgow, Aberdeen
